We woke up this morning at 2:00am and had to wait 8
hours until we left on the bus to go the Jiangsu Civil
Affairs Office to pick up Karli. During that 8 hours,
we were still unsure as to whether the adoption would
proceed as scheduled since our TA had not yet been
delivered to our China guide. I sent several emails
to our agency, as well as called several times, to see
if they could track our TA through DHL. At 9:15, I
called our China guide, Sandra, to see if she had
heard anything. She said she did not. We got ready
to go assuming everything would proceed. At 10:00, we
met with Sandra, and she said we could proceed with
Gotcha Day. We were so happy. We drove about 15
minutes to the building where we would meet the girls.
(There are 2 other families in our travel group.)
The office was on the first floor, so the girls saw us
walking by. When we walked in, we were allowed to
walk right up to the girls. Karli came right to me.
She said mama and baba with no prompting. We were
allowed to pick her up without the official handoff.
We stayed there about an hour and a half while we
completed paperwork and got to know Karli. She
immediately accepted food and drink from us. We have
been back in the hotel room about an hour, and Karli
is doing very well. She did not cry at all. She is
coloring right now with Kylie. She has already used
the potty to teetee. She knows what she wants and
lets you know. She will repeat words. She can hear,
and even appears to hear out of her left ear which is
supposed to be the one she is deaf in. She also
appears to be left handed. She was wearing 3 layers
of clothes when we got her plus a heavy coat. Her
foster parents gave her a pearl necklace and 2 silver
bracelets with little bells. She has laughed several
times and seems to be a very happy little girl.
Tomorrow we will return to to the Civil Affairs Office
and finalize the adoption.
