Touring in Beijing
Today we went to the silk factory. We saw how silk is
made, and shopped. Then bought a comforter for Kylie
and one for my room. We also bought some Chinese
dresses and skipped The Forbidden City since we have
seen it before. We did drive past it for Kylie to
see. Instead we went to the Temple of the Heavens.
It was much less walking, but was built concurrently
with The Forbidden City, so it has a lot of the same
architecture. We ate lunch at a Chinese restaurant.
We ate roasted duck and drank mum flower tea, which
was very bland. Then we drove to the Great Wall. We
rode a ski lift to the top, walked for a bit, and then
rode a toboggan ride back down. After walking up all
of the steps during last year's trip to the Great
Wall, I really enjoyed this. It is very cold here,
and on top of the mountain, it was windy too. On the
way back down the mountain, we saw the river frozen
over with a thin layer of ice. Then got McDonald's for
supper, and are now packing up to leave for Nanjing
tomorrow. We leave the hotel at 6am for an 8:05
flight because of the traffic situation in Beijing.
Less than 48 hours until Karli makes us a family of 7.
